The chapter was established in 1988 by the Beverly School Committee and the Superintendent of Schools to better provide collegiate financial support for Beverly's graduating students. It was originally called the Beverly Scholarship Foundation, but the name was changed to Beverly Dollars for Scholars in 2000. In 1992, the schools sponsored a penny drive, netting $504, and the total amount of money available was $7,251.

Today, the chapter has invested over $900,000. As a chapter of Scholarship America, we are required to send a year end financial statement to Scholarship America to conform with IRS regulations. Also, by June 30 of each year, we must send a list of the recipients, their colleges, and the amount paid each recipient for that year. Other statistics information is also required.
